Septarian nodules, also known as concretions and in the case of Septarian Egg, they are known as the name “Septarian Dragon Eggs”. These amazing rocks are essentially solidified balls of mud that occur in shallow marine environments and form around a central mass, for example a shell, or other rock fragment. Over millions of years, these concretions crack and expand and mineral-rich fluids deposit crystals inside the cracks, such as Calcite and Aragonite, which also makes these formations reactive under uv light, depending on the minerals deposited. The jigsaw-like nature of these filled cracks makes for some very interesting patterns and forms.
